Would you like to know the steps involved in dental crown treatment? If so, our dentist, Dr. Jay P. Boyle, and dental team are more than happy to help you. Sometimes if you know what to expect in the dental chair, your dental nerves will wash away. So, when you are restoring the health and strength of a tooth with a dental crown, you can expect the following treatment steps:

Step No. 1: Your dentist will numb the tooth and surrounding gums with a local anesthetic. Then, he will trim the outer shell of the tooth (the enamel) to make room for the new dental crown.

Step No. 2: When the tooth is the right shape and size, your dentist will take impressions (which are like molds) of your smile and will send them to dental lab technicians. They will craft your customized dental crown. While you wait for your crown to be made, your dentist will cover your tooth with a temporary crown so you can use it.

Step No. 3: When the crown is made and sent to our office, you will come back for a follow-up appointment. At this appointment, your dentist will secure the dental crown over your abutment with special dental cement.
